all my little plans and schemes - nothing but a bunch of dreams. all i really needed to do - was maybe some love. i don't expect you to understand - the kingdom of heaven is in your hand. i don't expect you to wake from your dreams - too late for pride now it seems. why must we be alone? it's real, love - yes, it's real. -- john lennon

pirates, bandits and godfathers

i find it odd that we as humans take so much delight in our own corruption. take, for example, the motion picture industry. we find so much joy in watching films that celebrate the cruel, violent, perverted nature of man. some movies, even some of my favorites -- bandits, pirates of the caribbean, etc. -- portray thieves, murderers, and deceivers as the "good guys".
last night i watched the godfather with some friends. i left feeling rather dirty and depressed. here is one of the so-called great pieces of film literature of our time, but all i could see was blood, hate and despair. why are we so obsessed with our own sinfulness? why not make movies about the goodness of God instead of the corruption of Satan? i suppose the answer is that things that are pure, good and holy aren't seen as being of any great intrigue. what's interesting about God's intended creation? why train our thoughts on goals of peace and love when it's so much more fun to imagine the kind of "adventure" that accompanies murders and wars?

I completely agree. I have oft of late contemplated the fact that several movies actually get us to root for the bad guys (i.e. Oceans 11, Italian Job, etc). How? And why?

P.S. I get to see you in about 13 hours!!!

Heart! Lindsay
